Program

Riverhead Soccer Club has developed a proven and successful soccer program for boys and girls ages 4 to 16 years old with advanced training concepts taught by experienced trainers and coaches. We promote a healthy and competitive learning environment in which players can reach their full potential and achieve self-confidence and positive self-esteem necessary to be successful both on and off the soccer field.

Multiple levels and programs are offered to accommodate all ages and levels of play:

TRAVEL / SELECT PROGRAM:  For U10 and older players, that form teams to compete in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).  This competitive level of play is divided by age groups and requires players to attend tryouts prior to team acceptance.  Open team tryouts are held in June each year.  Teams practice twice a week, with one practice provided with a professional trainer.  League games are on weekends.  Beyond open tryouts, any player looking for a team should contact the Club office to inquire about any limited team openings.

INTRAMURAL / CLUB PROGRAM:  An intramural program for U8 and older players that provides the developmental bridge between intramural and competitive soccer.  Players with or without previous experience are offered the opportunity to play in an organized league environment, preparing them for future travel team and/or school tryouts.  These teams are divided by age group.  Teams practice twice a week, with one practice run by a professional trainer. Games are played against other local Clubs/Towns within the Suffolk Soccer Interleague (SSI). Five games are played at our home fields and five away games - games are on Saturdays and Sundays depending on age and division.

DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM: This age specific training run by professional trainers and RSC certified Jr. Trainers is designed to develop and enhance the skills and confidence of each and every player. These are eight week sessions that are divided as follows:

*Riverhead Soccer School:  U7 through U11 players. This is a weekday program offered during the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall season. It consists of 1 hour and 15 minute sessions over an 8 week season where the groups train once each week.  Our curriculum has a six-part component comprised of the following:

  • Ball Mastery: emphasis on each player working independently with the ball using both feet.  Repetition is the key here.
  • Receiving and Passing: this will involve exercises to improve a player’s touch and increase accuracy as well as creativity in passing.
  • Moves (1v1): exercises which teach the moves that can create space against any defense.
  • Speed, Agility and Coordination: focus will be on acceleration, running with and without the ball as well as change of pace.
  • Finishing: game play and exercises that teach techniques for finishing as well as nurturing instinctive play.
  • Group Play: games and exercises that improve small-group combination play.
